world of edalon.png

Edalon, a beautiful world, inhabited by numerous unique species and races, with environments and societies just as diverse. Everything and everyone coexisting together harmoniously, or at least, so it seems at first glance. Don’t let the beautiful exterior fool you, once the illusion of a peaceful and gentle world is lifted, you can see this world for how it truly is. Edalon is a dark and cruel world, filled with endless wars and fragile alliances. But now, Edalon, a world that has had copious amounts of wars for centuries, is now in a state of emergency.

A colossal black fog, large enough to envelope a small nation, has appeared on Edalon. This fog is very peculiar, not because of its enormous size, but because it moves unnaturally, as if it has a mind of its own, like a living creature. Moving against wind currents, changing directions abruptly, and vanishing in an instant, leaving nothing except for those it has infected. But not all living beings that have come in contact with this black fog become infected, there appears to be no rhyme or reason behind who is infected by this “pestilence” Those infected are doomed to die. Nothing is capable of curing those infected, all will perish due to the pestilence they received from the black fog. But this pestilence isn’t just killing people, it is zombifying them after they die, turning them into mindless husks of their former selves. Fortunately these zombies aren’t able to infect others with the pestilence, only the black fog is capable of doing that. The real danger is that these zombies retain all of their abilities and skills, both physical and magical, that they had when they were alive. Meaning a zombified mage is equally as skilled and powerful at magic as when they were alive.

The inhabitants of Edalon are understandably fearful of this black fog and the pestilence it causes, and for the first time in centuries, the wars between races, cities, and nations come to a halt so they can together figure out a solution to this black fog terrorizing their world. But unbeknownst to them, this black fog is only but a small portion of the true threat. This black fog is actually the creation of an old god, a powerful being that inhabited Edalon millions of years ago, and this old god is only one of several old gods that have awoken. Millions of years ago, these old gods, and a portion of their descendants, were at war with other powerful beings that, together with their combined powers, were able to seal them away. They were sealed far beneath the surface, miles deep in the ground. And as those millions of years past, civilizations have been built on the surface above these imprisoned old gods without disturbing them. And the most recent civilization built there is the civilization known as Yhidraris. But as those millions of years past, so too has the seal that imprisoned them weakened, until it was finally weak enough for them to break free. Now, these powerful old gods and their descendants have awoken, and are now trying to retake their world which was taken away from them millions of years ago. And the only way to do this is to annihilate the inhabitants of Edalon, and start from scratch.

Drael was a renowned wizard known all throughout the lands. Unmatched when it came to his knowledge of anything related to the arcane and magic. Though his allegiances lied with Astona, the human’s largest and most populated city. But over 30 years ago, Astona was at war with the Ozuna, water elementals capable of summoning water, no matter where they are, and deal devastating damage to anything in their way. The Astonan army was holding their ground, but were slowly being pushed back. So the Queen of Astona saw no other option but to find a way to unleash an overwhelming amount of ice magic that will freeze the Ozuna right in their place. The Queen enlisted Drael to find the solution. After some thought, Drael realized the only way to accomplish the Queen’s request was to harness the power of the most powerful ice beings, frost giants. He located an enormous snowy mountain range where ice giants were known to reside. The Queen funded the creation of a large fortress where Drael and his followers could discover, study, and create a solution to the Ozuna problem. She also sent more people to help in his endeavors, such as researchers, scientists, arcane and magic users, knights, guards, etc. Since Drael’s Fortress was located so far away and in a hard to reach place from Astona, communication between the two was limited.

Several years passed and there was still no result from all the money she had been putting into this project, so she decided to personally visit him. When she arrived, she was horrified with what she saw. While his intentions started off the same as the Queens, but eventually his intense fascination with what he was discovering in those mountains drove him crazy. He found the solution to Astona’s problem, the frost giant’s soul. He found a way to extract the soul from a frost giant, but the only way to use that power was to implant it in another living being. But he was driven mad by his constant failure. He no longer cared for the Queen’s wishes, he was only driven by his deranged mind and ideas. The Queen immediately stopped funding Drael and took all the people she had sent to help him back with her to Astona, only his most faithful followers stayed, only to grow mad alongside Drael.
